There's Someone Inside Your House is a 2021 American slasher film directed by Patrick Brice and adapted by Henry Gayden. It is an adaptation of the 2017 novel of the same name by Stephanie Perkins and stars Sydney Park, Théodore Pellerin, Asjha Cooper, Jesse LaTourette, and Diego Josef. The plot follows Makani Young (Park), a senior transfer student from Hawaii who finds herself in the center of gruesome murder cases in her newly acquainted town of Osborne, Nebraska. Columbia University has become the epicenter of a growing showdown between student protesters, college administrators and Congress over the war in Gaza and the limits of free speech. And this is not representative of the vast majority of the protesters in the encampment, who mostly had been peaceful. They would later hold a Seder, actually, with some of the pro-Palestinian Jewish protesters in their ranks.

But there was one question that really embodied the kind of disconnect between the Committee — And it wasn’t just Republicans, Republicans and Democrats on the Committee — and these college presidents. And that’s when they were asked a hypothetical. From “The New York Times,” I’m Michael Barbaro. This is “The Daily.” Today, the story of how Columbia University has become the epicenter of a growing showdown between student protesters, college administrators, and Congress over the war in Gaza and the limits of free speech. For all of that “enlightened” window-dressing, however, we’re still left with a gory, foul-mouthed, R-rated slasher movie. There’s Someone Inside Your House feels like an updated version of past gorefests.

'Challengers' Heats Up: How Zendaya's Star Power and a Sexy Love Triangle Could Give Gen Z Its Next Movie Obsession

The encampment is set up in the middle of the night slash morning, prior to the hearing. And so what effectively happens is they caught Shafik when she wasn’t on campus, when a lot of senior administration had their resources dedicated to supporting Shafik in DC. Isabella says that this was just the beginning of a really tense period between student protesters and the University. After those two student groups were suspended, campus protests continued.

My phone blew up, obviously, from the reporters, from the editors, of saying, oh my god, the NYPD is on our campus. And I saw a huge crowd of students and affiliates on campus watching the lawns. And as I circled around that crowd, I saw the last end of the New York Police Department pulling away protesters and clearing out the last of the encampment.

The next day, Zach's rich father, Skipper, holds a corn maze next to the school. Darby messages Makani that Ollie has been released by his brother just as his car pulls up to the school parking lot. Makani runs inside to avoid him, and she bumps into Caleb, who is then stabbed by the killer for trying to hide his homosexuality.

But there are also communities that rely on people being able to trust each other and being able to carry out their classes and their academic endeavors as a collective so they can learn from one another. So in this case, that’s all getting scrambled. And I think if we zoom out for a second, it’s worth bearing in mind that she tried to choose a different path here than her counterparts at Harvard or Penn. And after all of this, she’s kind of ended up in the exact same thicket, with people calling for her job with the White House, the Mayor of New York City, and others.

And so as Isabella and her colleagues at the college newspaper see it, there’s this overall chilling effect that occurs. Some students become fearful that if they participate in any demonstrations, they’re going to face disciplinary action. So fast forward now to April, when these student protesters learned that President Shafik is headed to Washington for her congressional testimony. It’s at this moment that they set out to build their encampment.

I think it’s inherently a critique on a political pressure and this congressional pressure that we saw build up against, of course, Claudine Gay at Harvard and Magill at UPenn. And it’s a university on top of all that that has a real history of activism dating back to the 1960s. So when students are recruited or choose to come to Columbia, they’re actively opting into a campus that prides itself on being an activist community. They consider the city and the world, really, like a classroom to Columbia. That's right, the gimmick isn't even the gimmick. Also, the unspoken rule that the first two kills establish -- that the local bogeyman is going after people who are secretly bad people -- gets entirely demolished by the third kill when the target is a decent person.

I was like, “Fuck, am I going to seem unprofessional if I tell them that I showed up hungover? ” (Laughs.) And so I went to this crazy studio so far out; it’s like an hour away. So I was around all of these weird scans, and I was like, “Guys, I’m feeling like shit.” So they had a banana and a coffee mug for me. We’re going to get your face.” So everybody got 3D scanned, and then our special effects and makeup departments ended up making multiples of each character’s mask. There was one that was specifically for camera so it looked super, super close to the character, and then another one was for our stunt performers in case the mask broke or fell off during a stunt. If it was up to you, would you have preferred to not know the killer’s identity until the day you shot the reveal scene?

That superficiality means that There’s Someone Inside Your House has to offer something unique in the slasher department to set itself apart, and results are uneven there, too. In an unnerving touch, the killer wears a 3D-printed copy of their latest victim’s face. That costuming choice underscores the killer’s ideology that each of the victims deserves death for their hypocrisy.

The killer gives Makani the knife before Ollie and Makani's friends arrive and save Caleb. Makani then realizes that the killer is headed for the corn maze. Do they hold back, like at Harvard, where there were dramatic videos of students literally running into Harvard yard with tents. And so Columbia, really, I think, at the end of the day, may have kicked off some of this.

Admittedly, There's Someone Inside Your House is a good title for a film looking to play around with tropes and get a bit winky and clever with set pieces. But what we get is a flat, muddled mess that fails because it just wants to have everything. It wants to have someone run through a house, but also a church. Oh, and the corn is on fire like in Freddy vs. Jason.

Trustees of the University start to wonder, I don’t know that these leaders really have got this under control. And eventually, both of them lose their jobs in a really high profile way. This pic focuses on what Hollywood perceives to be the new generation of cool-kid outcasts. You know, those slightly nerdy teens who proudly proclaim their racial, gender and social/sexual right-mindedness while expressing their pseudointellectual disdain for everyone else. And then the movie’s murderer only kills those whom the film suggests deserve to be butchered in horrible ways. So, bullying jocks, racist conservatives, druggies and privileged whites meet goopy ends.

It's so algorithmically thrown together that even the titular premise/promise -- of someone being in someone's house -- doesn't even hold for more than one kill. It is derivative, because it is a slasher, by it's very nature it kinda has to be derivative. But it's smarter than it seems, even if it is basic towards the end. There's some good acting and an actual plot for the main characters, even if the killer reveal is cheap, obvious and uninspired. Still, I found myself engrossed instead of just watching while playing on my phone.

Well, I don’t think it’s just limited to college campuses. We have seen intense feelings about this conflict play out in Hollywood. We’ve seen them in our politics in all kinds of interesting ways.

Please review the episode audio before quoting from this transcript and email with any questions. Teens drink beer and hard liquor at a large party. Makani’s friend Ollie reveals that his parents were both “drunks.” Two different hazing events feature people being force-fed beer and alcohol. We see pictures of a gay teen being hazed and beaten bloody. A group of teen girls are hazed as well, being physically slapped and pushed around in a different scene. We see pictures and flashback images of that girl’s scarred face, body and hands.

Nick, Isabella Ramírez just walked us through what this has all looked like from the perspective of a Columbia student. And from what she could tell, the crackdown ordered by President Shafik did not quell much of anything. It seemed, instead, to really intensify everything on campus. I’m curious what this has looked like for Shafik. And you have all of those people not necessarily out of commission, but with their focus elsewhere. So the encampment is met with very little resistance at the beginning.

But those videos are reaching members of Congress, the very same Republicans that Shafik had testified in front of just a few days before. And now they’re looking and saying, you have lost control of your campus, you’ve turned back on your word to us, and you need to resign. It was something truly unimaginable, over 100 students slash other individuals are arrested from our campus, forcefully removed. And although they were suspended, there was a feeling of traumatic event that has just happened to these students, but also this sense of like, OK, the worst of the worst that could have happened to us just happened.

But maybe there’s some bad apples in your ranks. Or though you may have good intentions, you’re saying things that you don’t realize the implications of. And they’re making this environment unsafe for others. Or they’re grinding our classes to a halt and we’re not able to function as a University. So Shafik’s dilemma here is pretty extraordinary. I think there was obviously a lot of intention in timing those two things.

'Challengers' Heats Up: How Zendaya's Star Power and a Sexy Love Triangle Could Give Gen Z Its Next Movie Obsession

Maybe not calling on her to resign quite yet, but saying, I don’t know what’s going on your campus. And for those students who maybe couldn’t go back to — into campus, now all of their peers, who were supporters or are in solidarity, are — in some sense, it’s further emboldened. They’re now not just sitting on the lawns for a pro-Palestinian cause, but also for the students, who have endured quite a lot.

theres someone inside your house

New slasher flick There's Someone Inside Your House is an unfocused, unsatisfying teenage body dropper that feels like a patchwork poser compared to other, better horror mysteries. It dresses itself up in a dozen gimmicks to make it seem like more than a copycat of superior projects, but just about everything going on here is underwhelming to a frustrating degree. Next on the killer’s list is the student-body president, who’s likewise presented with proof of her misdeeds in the lead-up to her violent end.

After a killing, a friend of the victim sings a song with the lyrics, “To God, His name and His glory.” A memorial service is set up in a church. A student calls for a public, non-denominational prayer in a crowd. (Laughs.) I always get these kismet connections to my characters in some way. It’s really dope, and I’m just grateful for all of the experiences.

We did film in Santa Clarita, and we actually had hour lunches. She was such a beacon of light on set and such a presence. She was just really, really cool and very casual and fun. I wish I had more opportunities to work with her, but we would interact walking around on set.

And so when you have a question that feels as urgent as this war does for a lot of people, I think it reverberates in an incredibly intense way on those campuses. And there’s something like — I don’t know if it’s quite a contradiction of terms, but there’s a collision of different values at stake. So universities thrive on the ability of students to follow their minds and their voices where they go, to maybe even experiment a little bit and find those things. The Walking Dead's Sydney Park stars as Makani, a girl who's recently moved to town, escaping a recent, tragic event who, like everyone else, becomes the target of this masked assailant because... Again though, Makani, and her band of outcast friends, are apparently just as vulnerable as the killer's first two victims, who are a nasty prejudiced people. And all the while the film plays the Red Herring shell game to the point where the killer really can't be anyone except the one person that doesn't make any damn sense.

Makani Young (Sydney Park) is a high school student with a secret. When students at Osbourne High are killed off one by one by a Malevolent Masked Man hellbent on exposing their lies, she has to protect herself and her secrets. Makani’s friends and other teens are convinced that all cops are racist. And they tend to agree with the idea of disbanding police forces. And the group of Makani’s friends spout nasty comments about kids in their school.

A pattern thus established, the question naturally becomes which of their classmates is taking the idea of cancel culture a little too literally — and whether they’re aware of the incident that resulted in Makani’s abrupt move. First of all, thank you so much for saying that. I absolutely adored Santa Clarita Diet before I got the audition, and then when I did, I was like, “Holy fuck, this is amazing.” And everybody was so cool.

Memorable moments from South Korean leader's state visit with Bidens

However the value of hanok has been discussed in the early twentieth century, with many comparing them favourably to the more common but less eco-friendly apartments found across South Korea. Today, some train stations are influenced by traditional hanok design (Jeonju Station, for example). Beef short ribs, called galbi in Korean, are taken on a trip through the southern United States with sides of butter bean grits and carrots glazed with sorghum. Apartments on the first and second floors are occupied by two families, with a third family taking the whole third storey, while the topmost storeys of the house are merged to create a fourth apartment.

Long before Facebook, the community’s social network extended through distance, and even time. Just recently, I learned that a close friend of mine had lived on our block, a few years after we had moved to the suburbs. During the era of Korea under Japanese rule, the ruler used terms such as "jooga" or "Joseon house" when they were talking about house improvement. There is a record of hanok; however, the specific term "hanok" hasn't been used prevalently.

Vote to Resume U.S. Military Aid Is Met With Relief in Ukraine

Civil liberties groups are raising alarms about a bill making its way through Congress that applies pressure for a ban on travel to Iran for Americans using U.S. passports. The rights groups see the bill as part of a growing attempt to control the travel of American citizens and bar Iranian Americans in particular from maintaining connections with friends and loved ones inside Iran. There was a 21-gun salute, a formal inspection of the troops, and the playing of each country's national anthems.

These early types of heating and air-conditioning were so effective that they are still in use in many homes today. The posts, or daedulbo, are not inserted into the ground, but are fitted into the cornerstones to keep hanok safe from earthquakes. Paleolithic people in the Korean peninsula may have occupied caves or made temporary houses. In the Neolithic era, the temporary house developed into a dugout hut.

The house's columns, beams, doorways, windows, and base are all made of wood, whereas the walls are made of a combination of straw and soil. Hanok homes are great for avoiding the hot weather because of the high ventilation provided by natural construction materials. As the building rises in height, the facades are chopped away at various angles in order to meet lighting requirements. Space is provided for the family’s vehicles on the ground level, in the house’s frontal empty space. In addition to the master bedroom, there are three other bedrooms, an additional living area, and a separate workspace on the upper level.

In 1975, VIP Palace followed, reportedly the city’s first Korean restaurant. Both were built with upturned navy-tile roofs recalling the Blue House, Seoul’s presidential residence and executive office. While the market no longer exists, VIP Palace enjoys a new life as Guelaguetza, an acclaimed Oaxacan eatery that retains the Korean-style architecture. For immigrants like us, this neighborhood was a familiar way station in the inscrutable America of the 1970s.

The steel and concrete framework of the dwelling dangles up to create a partial barrier, which serves as a guard rail when the doors are opened. A steel roof is supported by metal beams that are fastened to the sides and down through the flooring. From the somewhat higher part, which is surrounded by a wooden deck, you are blessed with an absolutely magnificent view. The best time to see this spectacle is in the wee hours and at sunset, when there is plenty of air circulation from all directions. Our grill-top BBQ experience is perfect for a date or a big family dinner. A collection of varieties authentic dish is served at our restaurant including our famous Bulgogi, Kalbi, Bibimbap, and Korean pancake.

“At least half the residents used to be immigrants and refugees from Central America and Mexico.” In recent years, Koreatown has become even more diverse, with people arriving from Bangladesh, Thailand, Mongolia, and the Philippines. My family came to America in 1974, a year after I was born, and made our way to Koreatown. Back then, there were no glamorous hotel bars and certainly no speakeasies. Once a cultural way station for immigrants, this ever-evolving neighborhood offers an authentic taste of Korean culture.

Looking at it now, the driveway seems too small to have been our childhood playground, when just a traditional Korean floor mat protected us from the oil stains. Typically the houses of yangban (upper class), jungin (middle class) and urban commoners, with giwa (tiled roof), emphasized not only the function of the house, but also its aesthetics. The houses of provincial commoners (as well as some impoverished yangban), with choga (a roof plaited by rice straw), were built in a more strictly functional manner.

Due to our high volume and traffic, we cannot hold tables for parties like a reservation system. This system secures a table within our restaurant; however, it does not guarantee an exact seat by time. Priority is placed on your party, and if we are on a waitlist, your party is placed on top of the wait list as a priority.

Variable floor levels split the house’s size and allow it to blend in with the neighbourhood’s several architectural styles. Life lessons for Koreans came from their daily encounters with nature. According to the surroundings, everything from where and how a home should go was carefully considered. As a consequence of this closeness to nature, people built modest houses without unnecessary luxuries.

The CIGA Design Blue Planet Is An Award-Winning Chinese Watch That Deserves Your Attention

For starters, it features some very exaggerated curves, that end at about a 40mm (by my crude measurement) bottom of the case. So, to be clear, while at it’s widest point it’s 46mm, it drastically lowers by the time it hits your wrist making for quite a unique wear. I never forgot I was wearing it, but it also wasn’t a bother either. Not only did the CIGA Design Blue Planet win an award, in 2021 it won the award, the coveted GPHG Challenge Watch Prize for watches that retail at the more affordable end of the scale. This was against the likes of Oris, Doxa, the ultra-hot Furlan Marri and many others. And, as good as the other entrants were, seeing the Blue Planet alongside them made it an easy decision for the judges.

The Dial:

ciga design blue planet

It’s a simple-sounding solution, but much more modification than what most brands do when customizing and claiming a third-party watch movement. The three-dimensional globe motif at the center of the Ciga Blue Planet might suggest a world timer or GMT, but this is a functionally simple watch. It displays only the hours and the minutes — but it does so with discs instead of hands. The setting and hand-winding of the automatic caliber are done with the crown at 3 o’clock on the case. It’s an unfortunate necessity, as the perfectly circular brushed titanium case is not interrupted anywhere else except for cutouts underneath where the rubber strap connects. The curve of the case matches the curve of the sapphire crystal perfectly.

Remember what I mentioned earlier about the sun that gave the snow-covered mountains of Greenland a golden glow? This refers to the domed inner section of the CIGA Design Blue Planet – Gilding Version, which also plays a vital element in the way that this watch tells time. Unlike other watches, this timepiece does not have regular hands.

Hands-On Debut: CIGA Design Blue Planet – Gilding Version Watch

And since the Blue Planet is a GPHG winner, I’m apparently not alone in my thinking. I’m thrilled to see such innovation, and with the amount of attention to detail and ergonomics, the Blue Planet has, I really didn’t find any real fault. I never thought I’d be sitting here saying that this is one of the most fun and interesting 46mm watches I’ve ever worn and will continue to wear in the future. CIGA Design uses a proprietary timekeeping system for the Blue Planet. So that means that the brand needed a movement capable of being developed alongside CIGA to accomplish this.

With the help of a translator, we spoke over Zoom for about an hour, which is when I started to unpack and understand just how impactful the recognition by the GPHG has been for Zhang and his company. Chinn left the company in 2018 to focus on a new line, vintage-inspired swimwear brand Sun Becomes Her. Founder Ling-Su Chinn opened her first Planet Blue location in 1995 in Malibu, and eventually expanded across L.A.

Marine blue silica gel strap The sporty yet stylish fluoro rubber naturally complements the dial and can be dressed up or dressed down. CIGA Design U-Series Blue planet GPHG - the inspiration for blue planet comes from our vision of a restored and vibrant earth. A while back I flew over Greenland, and as I watched the snow-covered mountains below me, the sun hit them at just the right angle making everything look golden. It was a stunning sight, and this was also the first thought that came to me when I opened the box of the CIGA Design Blue Planet – Gilding Version.

That achievement made CIGA Design the first Chinese watch company to win an award at the Grand Prix d’Horologie de Genève. We make concrete carbon negative, transforming the built environment from a carbon burden to a carbon sink.

The Blue Planet is the brainchild of Jianmin Zhang, a renowned Chinese designer. Its full name is the CIGA Design Mechanical Watch Series U Blue Planet. As the press material surrounding the watch states, the Blue Planet aims to inspire a feeling similar to that expressed by astronauts upon their first view of Earth from space. This is called the “overview effect”, and it has been known to instill long-lasting aversion to war and feelings of connection with all living things.

My only actual gripe regarding the Blue Planet is the dead date position when pulling out the crown. For as unique as the mechanics of the watch are, I was reminded that it may be nothing more than a module set over a basic workhorse caliber every time I pulled the crown out. I wanted to stay seduced by the main show of the watch, which is all dial-side. Back in April, I wrote a piece featuring various watches from China. Not watches merely made in China, but those that are emphatically Chinese in origin and manufacture — and proudly so. The radical design and strong statement — not to mention quirky yet effective mechanics — make this piece look and wear like a much more expensive watch than it actually is.

At 46mm-wide, the lugless circular case of the CIGA Design Blue Planet – Gilding Version offers the same form and dimensions as its predecessor, but that’s where the similarities end. Although the smoothly rounded, UFO-like shape may be familiar, the new polished black zirconium oxide ceramic case material gives this soft shape an inky new sheen and an even more futuristic feel. Impressively, CIGA Design also renders the stylized 3 o’clock crown in matching ceramic for a unified look. Although the case dimensions may seem bulky on paper, the lightweight ceramic material and fully lugless geometry work in tandem to deliver a surprisingly comfortable and compact wearing experience.

If Donald Trump wins a second White House term, a distinct possibility according to polls, the invocation of the travel ban would be likely. In his first term, Trump imposed the so-called Muslim ban on travel to the U.S. for Iranians, among other nationalities, and has promised to reimpose it if elected again. “There’s an amalgamation of new condo buildings and then buildings that have character, so you get people who want both of those things in the community,” says Kim, who authored a photo history of Koreatown. “I think change really is inevitable in that sense because you’re seeing a demographic shift in the community and an economic shift in L.A. Other neighborhoods are harbingers of this, like Sawtelle.” Located west of UCLA, the primarily Japanese-American retail zone has gentrified over the past 20 years. In 1971 he laid the foundation for that dream with Olympic Market, which sold imported Korean staples.

Like Hanok roofs, these free-form overhangs harmonise with the landscape by gently caressing the hilly regions. The structure is rather broad and continuous in design, with a handful of rooms that stretch out to the northern and southern sides of the main corridor. Chamfered concrete walls encircle this South Korean family house, creating a dramatic interplay of shadows in the process.

In that paper, hanok was used in reference to the specific area along Jeong-dong road from Donuimun to Baejae school. At that time, instead of using hanok, terms like jooga (meaning living houses) and jaetaek (meaning a variety of houses) were more widely used. The word hanok was only used in special circumstances when the latest house was built somewhere. After the devastation of the Korean War there was a need for cheap, suitable housing for people displaced by the war. During the period immediately after the war, several hanok of historical value were demolished. In the larger cities of South Korea, only small clusters of hanok remain.

The Southern Fire ant (Solenopsis xyloni) is the fire ant with the largest distribution in California. It often shares its habitat with other fire ants such as the Golden Fire ant. Common in California, the ants can also be seen in mountainous areas as they are adapted to living both at sea level and high altitude. These ants (Pogonomyrmex californicus) are found in warm areas of the South, particularly coastal areas such as California. The ants are highly problematic as they often invade various crops and plants such as oranges. Flower buds are often damaged by these ants as they chew these flowers to get to the sweet juice.

Design Values

GetFieldsValue returns collected field data by default, but the Form.Item node is not ready at the first render. You can get all field data by getFieldsValue(true). If you'd like to help us improve antd, just create a Pull Request. However, all Western Carpenter ant colonies found in homes are satellite homes. Their main colonies are located outdoors under logs or rotting wood. These main colonies have to be exterminated as well to clear these ants out of the house.

Since this is just a syntax sugar for the prop columns, so that you can't compose Column and ColumnGroup with other Components. If you are a collaborator, please follow our Pull Request Principle to create a Pull Request with our Pull Request Template. Create an efficient and enjoyable work experience.

You should only access the API by official doc with ref. Directly access internal props or state is not recommended which will make your code strong coupling with current version. Any refactor will break your code like refactor with Hooks version, delete or rename internal props or state, adjust internal node constructor, etc. Here are the frequently asked questions about Ant Design and antd that you should look up before you ask in the community or create a new issue. We also maintain a FAQ issues label for common GitHub issues. If you want to customize your workflow, we recommend using webpack or vite to build and debug code.

For example, when there is a need to change the way of interaction, these poor abstractions may cause breaking changes. To avoid such problems, we recommend that new features be implemented through HOCs first. Internal API is not guaranteed to be compatible with future versions. If you really need to use it, you should make sure these APIs are still valid when upgrading to a new version or just lock version for usage. The holidays are such a wonderful time to be in Europe, which is arguably the Christmas capital of the world, given the December holiday celebrations. This cruise explores the offshoots of the Rhine and the gently curving Moselle leads to Cochem, where the quaint old town resembles a fairy-tale. On the Main there's another unique beverage to try in Bamberg, which is famous for producing a beer using smoked malt. The itinerary ends with a transfer to Prague and an overnight stay in the Czech capital known as the "city of a hundred spires". Fares include shore excursions in every port; free Wi-Fi; all meals; beer, wine and soft drinks with lunch and dinner; port taxes and fees; and visits to UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Christmas and New Years Cruises: Holiday Combo Cruises For Those Who Want It All

In addition to exploring its iconic Cathedral, we were graced with one of Europe's grandest Christmas markets – seven distinctively different markets spread all over! It was truly a sight to behold and an unforgettable experience for everyone. Mainz Christmas market is on the squares surrounding the city's Cathedral of St. Martin. It's also nice not to have to figure out how to get from market to market because the cruise line has figured everything out for you.

Best for old-world charm: Uniworld's Belgian Holiday Markets

While the majority of modern-day Christmas market stalls accept credit cards, others stick strictly to the local tender. The city hosts seven Christmas markets with different themes such as the charming Little Angel's children's market (Engelchen-Markt) and a market dedicated to handicrafts. If you're after festivities beyond traditional holiday merriment, Dusseldorf is also the home of the pioneering electronic music band Kraftwerk and you can still find traces of the city's techno legacy in its nightlife. Nearly every Danube River cruise stops in Budapest, often as a port of embarkation or disembarkation.

American Cruise Lines' 7-night Hudson River Fall Foliage Cruise

The most popular is located in front of the stunning Cologne Cathedral, a Gothic masterpiece dating back to the 13th century. The market has over 160 stalls selling handmade gifts, sweets, and warm drinks. But the real attraction is the view – the Cathedral in the background provides a stunning backdrop for any holiday photo.

A Christmas Markets river cruise is the very best way to enjoy the holiday season in Germany and throughout Europe. Vienna is known for its elegant architecture and rich history, and nothing embodies that more than the Christmas markets. There are over a dozen throughout the city, but the most popular is the one in front of City Hall.

Oftentimes times, they have even more ornamentation with holiday characters like elves and reindeer or Christmas trees topping the roof. The Christmas market vendors are located in stalls or kiosks that are typically made of wood and decorated with Christmas lights, garlands, and assorted holiday icons. They're a true highlight and really give the markets their unique character. Popular souvenirs include Alsatian beer steins or plush white storks -- a local symbol of good luck. Day six brings the cruise to Strasbourg, France, where you can tour the La Petite France District and wander through the warm glow of the Christmas market. The cruise then heads back to Germany to visit the Black Forest, where you can learn about local traditions and German winemaking.

Eating and drinking is a key component of the Christmas market experience. Each market sells an abundance of food, and the food options change from town to town. In Budapest, the Christmas market in the square in front of St. Stephen's Basilica was a good mix of crafts, decorations and tasty food to try. On the other hand, the Christmas market in Bratislava was more of a food market with just a few stalls for buying goodies to bring home with you. If you can, I suggest bringing at least two pairs of outdoor shoes in case your waterproof shoes can't handle the snow or a few days of rain in a row.

In select ports, passengers can sign up for optional excursions that are an added cost. These could be worth the upcharge, depending on the type of experience you want to have. In Rüdesheim, you can choose to take part in a coffee and hot chocolate tasting, marvel at one of the largest mechanical music box collections in the world, enjoy a wine tasting or explore the city on your own. The evening is spent sailing through the Rhine Gorge as you pass 30 castles along the shore. The river cruise starts in Paris, where you can spend the day exploring the city, seeing the Christmas markets in Montmartre or Saint Germain or shopping for high-end gifts along the Champs-Élysées before the 5 p.m. They all showed off the major church in the city center and described how the city navigated various wars.

You'll sail on one of Viking's state-of-the-art Longships which moor in the heart of towns so you're close to all the sights. Back onboard, the ships are beautifully decorated and the daily program will feature special events such as Christmas music performances, tree trimming and cookery demonstrations. Vienna is easily the best Christmas market in Europe for anyone who loves classical music and Christmas carols given the full choral treatment. Austria's capital is famous as the former home of Strauss, Beethoven and Mozart and during the holiday season international choirs stage free performances at the Christmas market held beside Vienna City Hall.

From Darrow, Louisiana, you'll stroll beneath canopies of towering live oak trees to visit historic mansions or glide through the bayou. More historic architecture, along with bird-watching, awaits in St. Francisville, Louisiana, and Natchez, Mississippi. Vicksburg, Mississippi, is home to one of the Civil War's most famous battlefields. Baton Rouge, Louisiana's capital, has something to satisfy every interest, from Cajun cuisine to tours of the restored World War II-era USS Kidd. One important thing to understand about river cruising is you don’t have to do every activity just because it’s included in your programme.

Instead, tours depart from the nearest port on the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal nearby. So where are the best Christmas markets in Europe and how can you get to them on a river cruise? It's most important to choose a cruise based on which destinations you wish to visit and which travel dates and itinerary lengths work with your schedule. Fares include meals, drinks during meals and happy hour, Wi-Fi, a library, excursions, bike rentals and a fitness center. Gratuity is not included for hotel stays and meals during the land portion of your trip.

The midpoint of the cruise will bring you to the decision to visit either Ghent, which is one of the oldest cities in Belgium, or Bruges, known for its medieval architecture and beautiful canals. The cruise also visits Antwerp, where you can explore the various Christmas markets that are spread throughout the city. Your trip ends in Brussels, with a whole day to explore the cute squares and charming markets and try local fare.
